Hemp Compounds 101: Exploring Delta-8-THC

organic cbd flower

Among the many hemp-derived cannabinoids present in today’s legal market, it’s safe to say that Delta–8-THC has become increasingly popular within the past few years, for many reasons.

As this amazing compound is making waves around the country, it’s certainly important for conscious consumers to be informed as to its specific properties.

In one of our previous blogs, we talked about what really makes our flower the best in Oregon. Keep following along with this blog as we’ll be detailing Delta-8-THC.

We’ll be talking about why it has become such a highly-favored (& highly sought-after) cannabinoid, while highlighting some of our top-selling Elli-Hou Farms D8 selections.

What is Delta-8-THC?

Delta-8-THC is a naturally-occurring compound that’s derived from the hemp plant. So now, you might be asking, what’s the difference between D8 & D9

According to Leafly:

Delta-8, like delta-9 (regular THC), binds to the body’s endocannabinoid system, which causes you to feel high. Chemically, delta-8 and delta-9 are similar in that they both have a double bond in their structures. This double bond is thought to produce the intoxicating effects that make you feel high.

The two THCs are chemically different in the placement of the double bond. Both cannabinoids have a chain of carbon atoms, but delta-8 has the double bond on the eighth carbon, whereas delta-9 has it on the ninth.

Many consumers who have tried Delta-8-THC have reported experiencing such similar psychoactive properties and effects as Delta-9-THC, except on a much smaller scale.

Delta-8-THC & the Endocannabinoid System

Similar to how we consume other cannabinoids from hemp and cannabis, Delta-8-THC has the ability to interact with our body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS)

Our ECS plays a crucial role throughout our nervous system. It works to maintain balance and homeostasis throughout the body.

It is comprised of a large network of chemical signals and receptors placed all through our body. These receptors (known as CB1 and CB2 receptors) are responsible for tuning and adjusting our body and brain.

Whenever cannabis and hemp-derived cannabinoids are consumed, such as Delta-8-THC or CBD, they interact with the endogenous cannabinoids (otherwise known as endocannabinoids) in our body and produce the effects we experience.
